New York City genre-bending band VRSTY has released a video for “dear whoever,” the latest track from its upcoming album, ícon.
The eight-track album arrives Oct. 23 through Spinefarm and continues VRSTY’s mix of hard rock, post-hardcore, R&B and pop influences.
Led by vocalist Joey Varela, VRSTY has built its sound around moving between those styles rather than settling into a conventional heavy-rock formula. Varela grew up listening to R&B, pop and Spanish music alongside heavier influences, a combination that has remained central to the band’s approach.
“dear whoever” follows previously released ícon tracks “sugar,” “face down,” “ez2find” and “grief machine.”
The album also features two collaborations. Brian Butcher appears on “ez2find,” while INTERVALS and CARTOGRAPHER guest on closing track “what’s the point.”
ícon follows VRSTY’s sophomore album, Levitate. The band previously released its debut full-length, Welcome Home, in 2020, along with several EPs.
VRSTY has also toured with 10 YEARS, NONPOINT, SECRETS and FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS. Earlier in its career, “Massive,” from the Cloud City EP, spent two consecutive weeks as the most-played track on SiriusXM Octane.
ícon arrives Oct. 23 through Spinefarm.
