THE ASTRAL PROPHETS Enlists GLYPH’s Jeff Black for “Invasion”
Canadian metal band THE ASTRAL PROPHETS has released “Invasion,” the title track from its debut full-length album, due Oct. 30.
The new song features GLYPH guitarist Jeff Black, who trades guitar solos with THE ASTRAL PROPHETS guitarist AJ Bergin during the track. An official lyric video accompanies the release.
“Invasion” combines the band's groove- and power-metal influences with a science-fiction narrative centered on humanity’s dependence on technology and its vulnerability when confronted by a more technologically advanced civilization.
Bergin said the song began with a main riff he wrote before bassist Terry Savage expanded the arrangement.
“I wrote the main riff for this one, intending to trade ideas back and forth with Terry,” Bergin said. “After I sent the initial riff, he quickly built out the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus.”
The track eventually developed into some of the album's most technically demanding material, including an acoustic idea from Savage that evolved into one of its fastest sections.
Black's appearance also reconnects two musicians with some shared history. Bergin previously spent time in SCYTHIA alongside Black but said the two never had an opportunity to record a song together.
“I had the pleasure of being in SCYTHIA briefly with Jeff, but never got a chance to work with him on a track until now,” Bergin said. “I am super proud of getting him on this song and will treasure it forever!”
THE ASTRAL PROPHETS emerged in 2019 from the aftermath of Canadian folk-metal band SCYTHIA and has developed a style it calls “Power Groove,” combining groove metal with power-metal melodies, hooks and science-fiction storytelling.
The band previously released singles including “Firewall,” “USB Humanity” and “Lazerwitch,” followed by the Anywhere But Here EP in 2023.
Invasion expands that concept across eight tracks built around alien civilizations, advanced technology, cosmic warfare and humanity's response to an extraterrestrial threat. The album incorporates synths, symphonic elements and sound design alongside the band's guitar-driven metal foundation.
“We wanted to bring an album that improves upon our already unique style,” Bergin said. “During our EP, we started to dial in our sound, but now we're delivering an LP in our full form.”
THE ASTRAL PROPHETS consists of vocalist Staci Allen, guitarists Harley D'Orazio and AJ Bergin, bassist Terry Savage and drummer Kyle Summers.
The band will celebrate the release of Invasion with an Oct. 30 show at Festival Hall in Calgary, Alberta, alongside VICTORIA LIES, CABRAAKAN and Kyle Pullan.
