SHOGUN MOJO Unleashes “Gonna Raise Hell” Ahead of Self-Titled Debut

SHOGUN MOJO, the new hard-rock collaboration featuring KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer and DAN REED NETWORK vocalist Dan Reed, has released “Gonna Raise Hell,” the latest single from its forthcoming self-titled debut album.
Shogun Mojo arrives Oct. 30 through Frontiers Music Srl, bringing together Thayer and Reed around a deliberately old-school approach to rock: musicians writing together, recording together and emphasizing the chemistry of a live band rather than assembling songs piece by piece.
“Gonna Raise Hell” captures that philosophy with a swaggering, celebratory hard-rock sound built for big choruses and loud guitars. Reed describes the song as less about simple excess than throwing yourself completely into whatever matters to you.
“The new single ‘Gonna Raise Hell’ is a straight-up invitation to give a hundred and ten percent to everything you put your mind to,” Reed said, extending that idea from partying and romance to creativity, celebration and personal ambition.
The project grew from a longstanding relationship between Reed and Thayer and expanded through sessions with a Sweden-based group of musicians. The resulting album draws heavily from the melodic hard rock and funk-inflected rock records its members grew up with.
Thayer said SHOGUN MOJO gave him an opportunity to work outside his usual environment and focus on playing, writing and the interaction between musicians in the room.
“There’s a great spirit and camaraderie in this band that comes through in the music,” Thayer said. “I’m excited for people to finally hear what we’ve created together.”
Reed characterizes the album as a “groovy, rowdy funk rock celebration of life,” with the sessions intentionally drawing inspiration from the way bands recorded in the 1970s.
That philosophy extends to one increasingly unfashionable rock staple: the guitar solo. Reed joked that despite repeatedly hearing that listeners supposedly no longer want them, Thayer plays one on every song.
Musically, SHOGUN MOJO sits at the intersection of late-’70s and early-’80s arena rock and Reed’s funk-driven melodic style. The band cites the scale and immediacy of classic KISS alongside the grooves associated with DAN REED NETWORK, particularly the sound of Slam.
The debut also includes a rendition of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” alongside nine original tracks, including previously released “Under The Gun” and new single “Gonna Raise Hell.”
