SEPULTURA Announces Final Concert After More Than 40 Years

Brazilian metal legends Sepultura have confirmed that the band's farewell tour will culminate in a final hometown performance in São Paulo, bringing one of heavy metal's most influential careers to a close after more than four decades.

The band announced its farewell tour, Celebrating Life Through Death, in late 2023 to commemorate its 40th anniversary. Rather than ending abruptly, Sepultura chose an extended world tour, giving fans across multiple continents the opportunity to see the band one last time.

The final concert is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho in São Paulo, Brazil. Guitarist Andreas Kisser has said the band intends to make the performance a celebration of its history, with special guests expected to participate, although no reunion with founding members Max Cavalera and Igor Cavalera has been confirmed.

Formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sepultura became one of the defining bands of extreme metal. Early albums including Morbid Visions, Schizophrenia, Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos A.D., and Roots helped establish the group as one of the most important acts in thrash and groove metal, influencing countless bands around the world.

The farewell tour has also produced one final studio release. In April 2026, Sepultura issued the four-song EP The Cloud of Unknowing, their final recording and the first to feature drummer Greyson Nekrutman. The release was inspired in part by the renewed energy of the band's final lineup and serves as the closing chapter of Sepultura's recording career.

While the farewell tour marks the end of Sepultura as a touring band, Andreas Kisser has indicated that the members intend to celebrate the group's legacy through future archival projects, including a planned live album documenting performances from the farewell tour.

With the final show approaching, Sepultura's influence on extreme metal remains undeniable. From their pioneering blend of thrash, death metal, groove metal, and Brazilian musical influences to their enduring impact on generations of heavy bands, the group's legacy is firmly established as one of the most important in the history of heavy music.
