NOVA SPEI Enters New Era With Third Album ‘Trinitas’

Quebec modern-metal band NOVA SPEI will release its third album, Trinitas, Nov. 6 through Bam & Co. Heavy, marking the first full-length chapter of a revamped lineup and a significant shift in the band’s sound.
The Trois-Rivières group underwent a major transition in 2025 with the arrival of vocalist Emmanuelle Desbiens-Dubois and lead guitarist Cédrick Charland. Desbiens-Dubois’ addition also brought female lead vocals into NOVA SPEI for the first time, a change the band has embraced as part of a broader creative reset.
Rather than attempting to reproduce its previous work, NOVA SPEI used the personnel changes to rethink how it approached both songwriting and recording. Trinitas combines the band’s established modern-metal foundation with djent, progressive elements and industrial textures while moving toward a less programmed, more organic production.
“Fans will feel the rebirth of the band,” guitarist Dany Soucy said. “The feminine vocal shift brings intensity, emotion, and a new perspective. This album is more organic, more passionate, and more honest than anything we’ve done.”
The transition was not immediate or easy. The band said writing the album came with uncertainty about whether it could follow its predecessor while simultaneously rebuilding its internal chemistry following the departure of its previous vocalist.
“Writing Trinitas was both a challenge and a burden,” NOVA SPEI said. “There was the fear of not being able to compose an album that would do justice to its predecessor, both musically and lyrically, and in terms of the energy we all wanted to share with the audience.”
The band ultimately found that changing vocalists provided the catalyst it needed.
“The shift in vocals from male to female was also, in itself, a considerable challenge, but one that was relatively easy to achieve,” the band said. “In the end, it was the change NOVA SPEI needed to get back on its feet and move forward into another chapter of its life.”
Trinitas was produced by NOVA SPEI and mixed by Francis Perron at Radicart Studio, whose credits include VOIVOD and MARTYR. Maor Appelbaum, whose credits include FAITH NO MORE, HALFORD and YES, handled mastering.
The sessions also represented NOVA SPEI’s first experience recording in a professional studio. Working with Perron pushed the band away from a heavily sequenced production method and toward performances designed to retain more of the human dynamics of the musicians playing together.
Soucy founded NOVA SPEI in 2012. The band has since performed more than 100 shows across Quebec and Ontario, received radio airplay and had its music used during Montreal Canadiens games.
The current lineup features Desbiens-Dubois on vocals, Soucy on guitar, Charland on lead guitar, Nicolas Dumais-Brouillette on bass and Julien De Carufel on drums.
NOVA SPEI has already previewed Trinitas with “Enterré Vivant,” “Déraciné” and “Renaissance.” The album arrives Nov. 6.
