MIZZIE MAXX Draws the Line With New Single “Strike 3”

Brisbane rocker MIZZIE MAXX is turning the page on her musical past with “Strike 3,” a new single that introduces a heavier, more focused direction built on oversized guitars, commanding vocals and the attitude of classic glam rock.
Released Sept. 25, “Strike 3” begins what Maxx describes as a new era for the project, combining an ’80s-influenced rock foundation with contemporary production and a developing post-apocalyptic visual world centered on survival, rebellion and rebuilding when everything around you has fallen apart.
The song itself revolves around reaching a breaking point. Rather than remaining trapped in a destructive situation, “Strike 3” is about recognizing the line has been crossed, reclaiming control and acting on it. The track was written, arranged and produced by Maxx, who also performs vocals and guitar.
Misha Gurnsky handles lead guitar, with Paul Shepherd on drums and Shane Schultz on bass.
Musically, the single puts guitar back at the center of the MIZZIE MAXX sound. Glam-rock riffs and a hook-heavy chorus provide the backbone while Maxx’s vocal performance carries the song’s combination of anger, vulnerability and defiance.
That approach represents a shift from some of the electronic and dance elements surrounding her earlier material. At the beginning of 2026, Maxx was still being described in the Brisbane scene through a broader rock/electronic/dance mixture. “Strike 3” points toward a more direct guitar-oriented identity while retaining the theatrical presentation that has become part of the project.
The change arrives during an increasingly active year for Maxx. Earlier in 2026 she released “Better Than I,” following a string of singles issued throughout 2025, including “Sometimes You Win,” “End of Me,” “Enemy,” “I Don’t Care” and “The Darkness.”
She has also remained active onstage in Queensland. In June, MIZZIE MAXX opened the main stage at the Where We Belong Festival in Redcliffe, a bill headlined by Australian rock veterans THE SCREAMING JETS.
Away from her own music, Maxx has become increasingly involved in the Australian rock community as a journalist with HEAVY Magazine. She joined the publication’s team this year and has since conducted interviews with artists and musicians throughout the scene.
HEAVY premiered “Strike 3” on the day of its release, describing the song as the opening chapter of an evolving post-apocalyptic concept surrounding the MIZZIE MAXX project. The track was also featured in the publication’s Australian-content edition alongside new music and coverage from artists across the country.
For Maxx, however, “Strike 3” appears designed as more than another standalone release. The new visual identity, harder guitar emphasis and recurring themes of collapse and renewal establish a framework for the music that follows.
And if the title is any indication, patience has officially run out.
“Strike 3” is available now.
