Danish death-doom quartet KONVENT has released “Firesky,” the title track from its third full-length album, due November 6 through Napalm Records. The song is the second single from the record and features a guest appearance from Mai Soon Young Øvlisen of MEEJAH.
“Firesky” finds KONVENT pushing beyond the death-doom foundation of its earlier work, introducing clean passages alongside the band’s crushing low-end heaviness and increasing its use of black-metal elements. That expansion carries throughout the five-track album, where the compositions stretch considerably longer than the band’s previous material.
The band describes the title track as a celebration of women and queer communities supporting one another in the face of adversity. That theme extends into the album as a whole, with KONVENT addressing the political climate and what it views as threats to the rights of women and LGBTQ people.
Musically, Firesky is built around lengthy, developing arrangements rather than compact songs. Opener “Exorcise” begins in slow, punishing doom before accelerating in its final section, while “Scorning” works through a more restrained buildup. “In the Unknown” stretches to roughly 12 minutes, and the title track brings some of the album’s cleanest passages into the band’s otherwise oppressive sound. Instrumental “Postludium” closes the record.

FIRESKY track listing: “Exorcise,” “Scorning,” “In the Unknown,” “Firesky” featuring Mai Soon Young Øvlisen, and “Postludium.” The album will be available digitally and on CD, cassette and several vinyl configurations.
KONVENT is Rikke Emilie List on vocals, Amira Liv Hernan on guitar and backing vocals, Julie Simonsen on drums and Heidi Withington Brink on bass.
