DUNGEON SERPENT Returns After Five Years With Lamentations Of The Shadowkingdoms
Vancouver melodic death metal project DUNGEON SERPENT will return Oct. 30 with Lamentations Of The Shadowkingdoms, its first album in five years and first release through Profound Lore Records.
The six-track follow-up to World Of Sorrows significantly expands the project's sound while retaining the melodic death metal foundation established on its debut.
Arawn again handles vocals, guitars, keyboards and bass, but the new album introduces drummer Bhraonáin of FAKE DUST along with violin performances from contemporary composer Anju Singh of THE NAUSEA.
That expanded lineup accompanies a broader musical approach. DUNGEON SERPENT pushes the speed and aggression beyond its debut while drawing elements from black metal, brutal death metal, grind and even jazz into the arrangements.
At the other extreme, Lamentations Of The Shadowkingdoms incorporates keyboards inspired by the Hellenic tradition, violin and additional atmospheric elements to give portions of the record a more orchestral scale. Despite those contrasts, its six compositions were designed to function as a connected whole rather than a collection of isolated tracks.
The album was mixed and mastered by Damian Herring of HORRENDOUS at Subterranean Watchtower Studios. Herring's previous credits include BLOOD INCANTATION, RIPPED TO SHREDS and SENTIENT HORROR. Marc Potts created the cover artwork.
