D.R.I. continues its East Coast run this week, bringing more than four decades of crossover thrash to a string of club dates stretching from New York through New England, New Jersey, Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

The next stop is Friday, Aug. 28, at Empire Underground in Albany, New York, followed by an Aug. 29 appearance at Nocturnal Cafe in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and an Aug. 30 show at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont. The tour then moves through Maine and New Hampshire before reaching New Jersey, New York City and Pennsylvania in early September.

Formed in Houston in 1982, D.R.I. became one of the defining bands in the collision between hardcore punk and thrash metal. The band's 1987 album Crossover helped give the emerging style its name, while records including Dealing With It!, 4 of a Kind and Thrash Zone established D.R.I. as a foundational influence on generations of punk and metal bands.

The current lineup features vocalist Kurt Brecht, guitarist Spike Cassidy, bassist Greg Orr and drummer Danny Walker. Brecht and Cassidy remain the band's central figures more than 40 years after D.R.I.'s earliest recordings.

• Sept. 6 — Nikki Lopez — Philadelphia

The Philadelphia date is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at Nikki Lopez on South Street, with Words That Burn also appearing.

For a band whose music helped erase the boundary between punk and metal, the formula remains straightforward: short stages, loud rooms and songs built to turn the floor into a pit. More than 40 years after D.R.I. first emerged, the crossover veterans remain firmly on the road.
